Guru roop Khalsa ji,
Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru ji Ki Fateh,

I am writing this mail as you may be one of the generous funding partners in programmers which encourage the healthy physical, social and emotional development of the Sabat Surat Sikhs.

I am 67 and was one of the 21000 athletes from 82 countries who participated in World Master Games 2005 held last month at Edmonton(Canada). I finished 4th in Long Jump and 100x4 relay race. Out of 28 participants in 100M Dash I was 3rd in heats and 10th in semi finals with a finish time of 14.99. Last year I won gold in Long Jump and 3 silvers in 100M, 200M and High Jump in Connecticut Senior Games at Hartford in USA. The same year I won one gold and 2 silver medals in Annual Cansikh meet in Toronto. (Go to www.worldmastergames2005.com and go to photos and enter my Bib No.2899 to see my 19 photos in track & field). In India I have a good record of my performance.

I have two children, One is an Engineer in USA with T.Mobil and the other in Toronto doing own business. I have enough money to feed myself for the rest of my life. Even I can work as I am young enough to do hard labor and earn if need be. But I want to do something for the lost dignity of the Sikhs with whatever strength the Guru has given me.

The Plan at a Glance:
HELTHIER,HAPPIER CHILDREN

Well designed sport and play programs help guide children on a positive path to healthy development. In addition to the physical benefits, sport and play programs enhance holistic development, help foster resilience, create a meaningful connection to adults. Sport and play also teach important values and life skills including leadership, self-confidence, teamwork, conflict resolution, discipline, respect and fair play.

LOOK AFTER YOURSELF, LOOK AFTER ONE ANOTHER;

This is the philosophy that guides us. Through our sport and play programs we believe we can empower children and communities to look after themselves and each other. In everything we do, we emphasize the best values of sport and our organizational values - optimism, respect, compassion, courage, leadership, inspiration and joy.

DISEASE, POVERTY AND DRUGS

Opportunities to play are scarce for children affected by disease, poverty and drugs and those who are marginalized. This scarcity must be addressed because play occupies and strengthens both mind and body. Play gives children the opportunity to be children. And without that opportunity, children - and communities --cannot thrive.

Guru Gobind Singh had been imparting training in those days sports in addition to spiritual guidance. Therefore we have decided to have a Sports Complex with modern training facilities like modern track and field grounds meeting international standards at Anandpur Sahib. Necessary land for this purpose is available. In the first instance 500 talented sabat surat gursikh athletes (without any preference) from various age groups will be selected to become SANT SIPAHIES in the real sense of the word. Free food/clothing and good place to live in will be provided. The grounds will be open not only to the registered students but also whosoever is interested in sports and well-being.

The students will be given full knowledge of Guru Granth Sahib. Kirtan and Path will be their regular programme. Whereever they go they will be able to perform Sikhi of their own without any help. This will be the force behind their success in life.

If I get support from organizations like you I assure you, Sir, I will one day show you that the money so granted brings results. Most of the funds sent through big organizations and governments do not reach where they should, but in this case you will feel satisfied and donations from hard earned money have not gone waste and it is a sportsman promise. Therefore, I request you to try this. A name plate containing the names of funding partners will be fixed n the premises of the Institute and would be available on net.

One thing more cash is not needed. Help in kind i.e. you can send money direct to the company in Canada supplying the fixtures and equipment address will be supplied as quotations are being asked.

I hope, Sir, you will consider my request at your end and find some other organization to help this project a success and the results will make you proud for your help.

Let Guru's knowledge prevail.
Yours truly
Gurdev Singh

Critical View

Sikh carnage of 1984

The apology only further justifies the ‘comments’ of then Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi, ‘when big tree falls, Earth does shake’.

‘A great national shame, a great national tragedy’

In India honest Sikhs always doubt all those persons who are hired, in politics, playing double standards and have no commitment to Sikh cause, may be sincere to any individual, group, party etc for their personal reasons to earn and use it as shelter/umbrella to hide their misdeeds/crime, to protect their unaccounted wealth and huge property within or outside the State by remaining in news and so on.

It is all for gaining and getting undue considerations through political nasty means. Now days, it is well known that in India, politics is a big though notorious business, so here meaning of democracy is totally changed as people are living under State repression leaving few exceptions. To cover up this dummy democracy, some planted thick-skinned do raise hue and cry timely to mark their presence and in turn they are much benefited from this play. Anyway, they are always in need of Indian State to show that here democracy is functioning.

Some politicians like our Hon’ble Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Somnath Chaterjee do say that their conscious is clear, despite of it they do wish remaining in this vicious mainstream of politics and do not come out of it by disowning it whereas Dr. Manmohan Singh has become compulsion for this leaderless country at this junction otherwise Dr. Manmohan Singh is not the person to stay there at the mercy of Respected Madam Sonia Gandhi ji only.

To my mind, I do not think that with this cover up, Indian Government can keep the World in dark for longer period under the circumstances when communication gap is diminishing though missing factor of education is great hurdle for the large population of India to remove this gap.

Sikh Vichar Manch, a voice for the silent, depressed, hidden and feared people does appreciate Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India for apologizing for Sikh Carnage of November 1984 but at the same time feels that so far as Indian State is concerned it has not made up his mind to do justice with Sikhs whole heartedly as spiteful politics is prevailing over the justice though efforts can be made in this direction provided there is ‘Will Power’ in the prevailing situation.

The apology is more and less is based as per the mind of Indian government made up at the time of Action Taken Report (ATR) by which clean chit was given to the culprits of the Sikh Carnage of November 1984. However, it is well worded and very carefully prepared document/speech known as "apology," when the government came to know from her agencies and other reports that the people opinion is against them as ‘Sikhs did not get justice’ even after 21 years of Sikh Carnage organized by members of Congress-I. It is also reported by accounts of witnesses alleging that in the late hours of October 31, 1984, local Congress (I) Leaders held several meeting all over Delhi to make plans to kill Sikhs and also exploded the myth that carnage was a " communal riot". The killing of the Sikhs continued unabated and unchecked for four fearful days i.e. October 31 to November 3, 1984.

The ‘delay’ of four days of inaction is ‘A very strong and crucial circumstantial evidence which is more valuable piece of evidence in the eye of law than eye witnesses accounts/evidence in this case’ to implicate and held responsible for Sikh carnage of 1984 to all who organized the carnage and collaborators of Indian State then held high responsible positions in Delhi. Moreover, the so-called apology is a confessionary statement and also justifies sacrificing and punishing the black sheep responsible for unforgettable crime against the Sikh minority in India.

Though it is very clear from the various reports that Indian State then became the collaborator to violence against Sikh minority, the present government has given again clean chit to the culprits under Action Taken Report (ATR). In fact, ATR itself is to be called as ‘A national shame, a great national tragedy’ presently.

The apology only further justifies the ‘comments’ of then Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi, ‘when big tree falls, Earth does shake’.

Dr. Manmohan Singh in his speech as being stated to be an apology has praised more Smt. Indra ji as enshrined therein, "And I, as the Prime Minister of this country, have no hesitation in saying that what happened — the death of a great Prime Minister who had served our country with the greatest distinction in peace and war, who brought victory to this country in the eventful days of the Bangladesh War; her death at the hands of her own bodyguards — was a great national tragedy. What happened subsequently was equally shameful".

The language is same but tactically stands changed.

Here Dr. Manmohan Singh said that meaning thereby after one national tragedy another national shame, tragedy was to happen = ‘when big tree falls, Earth does shake’ as said by then Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi.

When Dr. Manmohan Singh says, "I started by saying that we cannot undo the past, but we have an option, today, to build a better future. Let us help the Sikh community to get out of that trauma of 1984. Valiant efforts have been made by all our national leadership to achieve that task, and we have succeeded. Let us not do anything which will reverse that process".

We hope that in near future PM has in mind to fulfill the remaining demands of Sikhs for their ‘unique status’ otherwise he may prefer to quit.

In absence of justice, such carnage of minorities is likely to become daily affairs in India. Sikhs and other minorities shall carry on raising similar slogans till their independence if the like criminals go unpunished.

WSC-AR Strongly Condemns India's Denial of Justice to Victims of 1984
Pogroms of Sikhs; Calls Upon World Community to Demand Transparency,
Accountability, and Restitution from India

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 8, 2005

Contact: Dr. Tarunjit Singh, Secretary General, World Sikh Council -
America Region, 614-210-0591,

The World Sikh Council - America Region (WSC-AR) condemns in the strongest possible terms the newly released Nanavati Commission report which investigated the 1984 massacre of thousands of Sikh men, women, and children across India as well as the subsequent Action Taken Report as a front for its genocidal attempts against the Sikh people.

The Commission's report has effectively exonerated the vast majority of Indian political leaders alleged to have organized the pogroms and identified by survivors, witnesses, and citizen reports. The few political leaders indicted by the Nanavati Commission have essentially been cleared of murder charges by the Action Taken Report of the Government of India.

We urge the world community, the United Nations, and international human rights organizations to demand transparency, accountability, and restitution from India, which claims to be the world's largest functional democracy.

"The planned brutal lynching, massacres, and ethnic cleansing of Sikhs more than twenty years ago, and the inability of ten commissions of inquiry and various political parties in power at the federal level to fix responsibility for this pogrom indicates that justice delayed to Sikhs in India is indeed justice denied," said Mr. Amolak Singh, Chairperson of WSC-AR.

"The Sikh community's repeated appeals for transparency, accountability, and restitution to the Indian Government have been ignored as not being in the interest of peace. We honor the victims of state terrorism and pray for the survivors who are still suffering," said Dr. Anahat Kaur, Vice-Chairperson of WSC-AR .

"The release of this cover-up report rubs salt into the wounds of a traumatized Sikh community. However, this moment is also an opportunity for Indians of conscience to stand up and demand that their nation act to end impunity against religious minorities and provide justice to those affected by such pogroms," said Dr. Tarunjit Singh, Secretary General of WSC-AR.

The assassination of the Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, allegedly by two Sikh members of her security force, triggered a planned and premeditated orgy of violence and ethnic cleansing against Sikhs in India's capital city of New Delhi and across the country. Sikh homes were identified by lynching mobs from government issued voter lists.

Ms. Barbara Crossette, the New York Times Bureau Chief in Delhi from 1988 to 1991, writes in "India's Sikhs: Waiting for Justice" published in the World Policy Journal, Summer 2004: "Almost as many Sikhs died in a few days in India in 1984 than all the deaths and disappearances in Chile during the 17-year military rule of Gen. Augusto Pinochet between 1973 and 1990…. Not only Chile, but also Argentina, Peru, Mexico, South Africa, and Ethiopia, among other nations, have been addressing atrocities from decades past. India, in refusing to confront its bloody recent history, stands in glaring contrast to these nations."

Printed media and citizen commission reports show that following the assassination of Mrs. Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, thousands of Sikh men and women were killed and raped across India for a period of at least two weeks. These reports show that during this pogrom, thousands of Sikh men were lynched and murdered, some necklaced with tires soaked in kerosene and set afire by jubilant mobs, and thousands of Sikh women were publicly raped, many in front of their male relatives.

A published citizen's commission report states one Sikh woman's harrowing experience: "The women were herded together into one room. Some of them ran away but were pursued to the nearby nallah (stream) where they were raped. Their shrieks and cries for help fell on deaf ears. From among the women held in the room, hoodlums asked each other to select whomsoever they chose. All the women were stripped and many dishonored. She herself was raped by ten men. Their lust satisfied, they told the women to get out, naked as they were. For fear of their lives they did so, hiding their shame as best as possible. Each begged or borrowed a garment from relenting neighbours and sought shelter wherever they could." (Delhi: 31 October to 4 November 1984, Report of the Citizen's Commission, January 1985, pp. 18-19.)

The Indian Government estimated the number of persons killed in Delhi alone during the first three days of November 1984 at nearly 2,700. A list of 3,870 names of Sikhs killed was published by Indian Express, November 1, 1989. The total for the country is estimated to be about 20,000, with 10,000 in Delhi alone. Several citizen commission reports have documented that the leaders of India's ruling Congress Party and officials of the Government organized and encouraged these massacres of Sikhs to "teach the Sikhs a lesson."

The massacre and faked encounter killings of Sikhs has continued since 1984 in India. In the last 20 years, more than a quarter million Sikhs are reported to have been killed.

"On the strength of…constitutional features, India claims to be the largest functional democracy in the world where wide-spread human rights abuses, systematic persecution of estranged communities and suppression of political dissent cannot occur. However, the experiences of the Sikhs in Punjab show that as a demonised community targeted for abuse by the authorities, they had no protection from the leaders of the supposedly independent institutions, including the judiciary, either in shielding their fundamental rights against imminent violations or in obtaining acknowledgement and legal restitution of wrongs. Freedom of discourse remained an empty promise which even the higher judiciary joined the chorus to turn the page and obliterate the victims' memory on the grounds that a public discussion and scrutiny focusing on past abuses and the role of institutions would undermine the interests of peace and social order," writes Mr. Ram Narayan Kumar, et. al. in a May 2003 report titled Reduced to Ashes (Volume One) published by the Asia Forum for Human Rights. (www.punjabjustice.org/report/report.htm)

Dr. Anahat Kaur, Vice-Chairperson of WSC-AR further added, "The Sikh experience in India demonstrates a relentless pattern of religious persecution under the guise of democracy while flouting the ideals of peace, justice, and human rights." She added, "These actions hardly seem worthy of a democratic nation."

WSC-AR is a representative and elected body of Sikh Gurdwaras and institutions in the United States. Its members include 31 Gurdwaras (Sikh places of worship) and 6 other Sikh institutions across the nation.

( Mercy Petition From Sikh Community Karachi)

Subject: Voilation of Religious Rights of Sikh Community in Karachi

and request to save the HOUSE OF GURU NANAK DEVJI..

Respected DR. Sahib

It is to inform you that We the Sikh Minority Community in Karachi has been kept under mental torture by Government of Sindh who had issued Registration Certificate to Hindu group in the name of Sikh Prophet Sri Guru Nanak Devji.

As it is shining truth that the Sikh and Hindu religions are totally different religions from each other having their electorial constituency seprate from each other as provided in the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 and no any religious group or sect is permitted to poke their nose in the affairs of other religion or sect.

The Provincial Assistant Registrar Government of Sindh Karachi had issued a Registration Certificate No.2624/93 dated: 16-11-1993 to the Hindu group in the name of SHREE GURU NANAK SHEWA MANDLI with the Aims and Objectives to Manage and Control SRI GURU NANAK SAHIB DARBAR Aram Bagh Karachi for Preaching Hinduism.

The Hindu group after getting Registration of their Society under societies Registration Act 1860 have filed Civil Suit for Declaration that their Society should be declared legal and lawful body to manage and control worship place SRI GURU NANAK SAHIB DARBAR for preaching their Hindu religion AS GURU NANAK SAHIB AND OTHER GURUS WERE HINDUS.

First of all it is undeniable fact that GURU NANAK sahib is Prophet of Sikh Religion whose teachings and philosophy is different from Hindu Religion and to issue Registration to Hindu group specially at that time when matter of Gurdwara Building was already in court of law which clearly demonstrates the discrimination of Government with Sikh Community.

The Hindu group which is land grabber First got the Running Gurdwara sahib sealed u/s 145 CRPC as a dispute of Property on Ownership and after sealing of Gurdwara and dispossession of Sikh families and sevadars from Gurdwara obtained registration of their group in the name of SHREE GURU NANAK SHEWA MANDLI.

This Registration of Hindu group in the name of Guru Nanak Devji was only because the Property in the record of rights stands in the name of SRI GURU NANAK SAHIB DARBAR BY MANAGING TRUSTEE SADHU SINGH who left pakistan in 1947 at the time of sub-division of indo-pak.

As per law the Registered society in the name of Guru Nanak Devji is eligible to claim over the properties in the name of Guru Nanak devji.

Taking advantage of Registration they had filed the suit in 1994 against Sikhs and claimed that being sevadari of Guru Nanak devji this gurdwara sahib must be handed over to them.

The long seizure of Gurdwara sahib since 1993 and the court case upto Supreme court nothing was come out but court ordered to decide the title of Property from civil court.

After Ten Years On 28-9-2004 Civil court Karachi dismissed the civil suit of Hindus and the Gurdwara sahib was re-opened on 11-10-2004 and the possession was restored to Sikh Community .

The Hindu group again filed the appeal in session court which was dismissed on 20-1-2005 and again they filed appeal in High Court Sindh with demand to seal the Gurdwara sahib again.

on 22-6-2005 High Court again ORDERED TO SEAL THE GURDWARA SAHIB ARAM BAGH KARACHI.

Now vthe Sikh Community of Karachi is without worship place and without any community activities and the CITY of 20 Million people looks without sikh Gurdwara.

I being the Chairman of Sikh Community on behalf of community have approached concern Government Department for more than 50 times for Cancellation of Hindu Society in the name of Sikh Prophet SRI GURU NANAK DEVJI but since 1993 no officer had listen we deprived Sikh Community.

We have approached following Pakistani Authorities and have made many complaints against the bungling of Government Officers with Hindus who illegally acted against the Sikh Religion and caused seizure of Holy Worship place of Sikhs and caused disrespect of Sikh Gurus through preaching Hinduism under the flag and name of Guru Nanak Devji.

The following offices had been reported injustice done to Sikh Community .

1. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif 2 Times.

2. President of Pakistan Mr. Pervaiz Mushraf

3. Chief Secretary Sindh

4. Federal Religious Minister Islamabad.

5. Federal Secretary Religious and Minorities.

6. Minister Industries Sindh

7. Former Interior Minister Ge. Moeen Hyder

8. Syed Mushahid Hussain Secretary ruling Party PML Q.

9. Governor sindh Dawoodpota.

10 Chairman Anticruption sindh

11 Provincial Ombudsman Sindh.

12 Registrar Joint Stock Companies.

13. Dr. Khalid Ranjha Law Minister Pakistan(EX)

Honourable Sir, I have acknowledgement of above authorities that I have made complaint against the involved officers who had Crushed the religious feelings of Minority Sikh Community and acted against the Constitution of Pakistan but no one have listened to us since 12 years and we are facing court cases due to the REGISTRATION OF HINDU SOCIETY IN THE NAME OF GURU NANAK DEVJI WHO USE THIS SOCIETY ONLY FOR COURT CASES..

The bsis of my arguments lies on the following legal points.

That It is provided in Constitution of Pakistan That every religion and sect is free to excercise their religious rituals according to their belief and no any other religion group or sect should be allowed to interfear in the affairs of other religion.

Then Why the Government has acted against the law and descrimination against the Sikh Community. We the sikh community are peaceful and law abiding citizens looking only solution of problem through Government itself and not through violence or procession.

Our plea stands on EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AND LAW FOR EVERY CITIZEN OF PAKISTAN.

QADIANI / AHMADI Group who do not believe the finality of Prophet of Muslim are restricted to use the name of Prophet of Muslim in Pakistan and can not form/register their Association in the name Holy Prophet of Islam.

likewise Hindu worship the god godess and idols which is against the religious thoughts of GURU NANAK DEVJI and SIKH RELIGION are neither authorised to form their society and nor use the name of Prophet of Sikh religion specially for negative behaviour ie court cases.

The Sikh Community of Karachi request your Organization for the justice and appropriate action for immediate cancellation of Hindu Society in the name of GURU NANAK DEVJI by declaring it null and void for court cases and all legal operations.

The Sikh community of Karachi request all pakistani leadership including Hon. Members of Senate and National Assembly of Pakistan to kindly Provide Justice to Sikh Community of Karachi and Issue immediate orders for cancellation of Hindu Association in the name of SHREE GURU NANAK SHEWA MANDLI KARACHI and declare it null and void for legal operations.

And further pass the law in Parliament that the worship places in the name of Sri Guru Nanak Devji in Pakistan are only the religious Properties of Sikh Community which could be used for Sikh Sangat of the area.

Thanking you, we remain

Respectable Global Cyber Mates,
Waheguru jee kaa Khalsa Waheguru jee kee Fateh

I was under the impression that President (SGPC) and the appointed Jathedaars were all powerful who can't be questioned by anyone except sad supremo Parkash Singh Badal.

Now it is understood that there is another body which can also look into the various malpractices being done within the Complex of "Darbaar Sahib & Akaal Takht Sahib". It is a bold decision by the Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission comprising President Kashmir Singh Patti, Judicial Members Ajwant Singh Mann and Amrik Singh Randhawa who have expelled the President (SGPC) Bibi Jagir Kaur.

As pointed out by Col Avtar Singh, in fact, due to other pending criminal case, she could not have been appointed as President (SGPC) but Badal and his son may be knowing their compulstions who have been playing dubious and double role in this Drama.

It is not clear whether her expulsion is due to rejection of SGPC Dossier or due to other reasons now highlighted?

Since this trend of punishing the guilty has started by the Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission, it will be interesting if similar action is also contemplated against others, for instance - (these may be unfounded doubts only)

1. How Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode was appointed Jathedaar of Akaal Takht Sahib? How much money was given to him by the Indian Secret Agencies? How much land he was having in Punjab/Haryana/Rajasthan before 1984, and afterwards?

2. Whether former Jathedaar Prof. Manjit Singh (Sidhu) had given account of foreign donations? From where he had acquired so much wealth to operate Real Estate operations? How his brother also became so rich or who gave him money?

3. Jathedaar Bhai Ranjit Singh was given Rs.50,000 by socalled Sant-Baba Amar Singh (Sidhu) whether it was deposited with SGPC or Akaal Takht Sahib? What happened to the costly CAR donated by his well wishers in Canada? Why he had exonerated President (SGPC) late Gurcharan Singh Tohra in spite of HukamNama against Nirankaris? From where he got money to purchase property during his capacity as Jathedaar?

4. President (SGPC) late Gurcharan Singh Tohra may also be allowing such concessions to his known persons regarding admission in Khalsa Institutions then why no similar action against him? Why he gave three lakhs to the family of late Satbir Singh when no such amounts were given to victims of 1978, and 1984 Carnage? Why he went to Nirankari Bhavan? Why he did not follow HukamNama of 1978? Why he wrote letters to the Indian Govt. before 1984 June Attack by Indian Forces? Whether he was faithful to the Sikh Nation or Indian Govt. for which now his widow has been awarded fabulous concessions like a retired Governor or President?

5. Why no action against Giani Puran Singh regarding his HukamNama from Nagpur presumably with the cooperation of RSS/BJP and how much he was paid? Whether he has disproportion assets against his known sources of income?

6. Why no action against Jathedaar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti reg. his role in respect of socalled Baba Dhanwant Singh's rape case who was subsequently jailed for 10 years for the same offence? Who paid for the printing of brahminical book - Gurbilas Patshahi 6 and whether he agrees with its contents eventhough not in conformity with Sikh Tenets? Under what circumstances, he cleared film - jo bole so nihal? Why he has not taken any action against Giani Iqbal Singh of Patna Sahib for his 2 or 3 wives affairs? Sikh Reht Maryada says - "No book should be installed like and at par with the Guru Granth" then why no action against Granthis of Patna Sahib and Hazur Sahib as they have installed Dasam Granth together with Guru Granth Sahib? Why no action against socalled santbaba Daljit Singh of Chicago reg. complaint from his first wife? Why he has been visiting his Dera often? Whether money given to him during his tours is deposited with SGPC?

7. Whether Parkash Singh Badal has accounted for the grant of Rs.50 or Rs.100 crores given by BJP Govt. in 1999? Why huge money in bags is kept in locked rooms in Darbaar Sahib Complex and why not entire collection (goluk & receipts) is banked daily? What about his visits to Hindu mandirs and following their rites? When cases against him are also pending why he has not resigned as SAD President?

8. Why no action against other Vice Presidents who may actually be involved such as Pakhowal or other SGPC Secretaries who look after the administration policy issues?

At the end, I must admit that I don't know whether SGJC is empowered with legal power like High Court of Punjab or their decision could be challenged? Also whether they would also look into other such cases sothat there is transparency in the functioning of SGPC & Jathedaars. As a Diaspora Sikh I am glad that some action is being taken to check the dictatorial powers vested with Presidents and Jathedaars so that they only act in the light of Divine Word enshrined in the Guru Granth Sahib and guided by the Sikh Reht Maryada and The Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925. Malice towards none as I have nothing personal against anyone.

Gurmit Singh (Australia)

WSC-AR Meets with Conference of European Churches to Discuss Hate Crimes
Against Sikhs in Europe; Appeals to Sikh Community to be Vigilant

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 21, 2005

Contact: Dr. Tarunjit Singh, Secretary General, World Sikh Council -
America Region, 614-210-0591,

The Secretary General of World Sikh Council - America Region (WSC-AR), Dr. Tarunjit Singh, met with the President of the Conference of European Churches, Rev. Jean-Arnold de Clermont, on July 11, 2005 to share concerns over the recent increase in hate crimes against Sikhs and Muslims in Europe following the London bomb attacks.

The meeting was held in Indianapolis, Indiana during the annual conference of the National Association of Ecumenical and Interreligious Staff (NAEIS), July 9 - 13.

Dr. Singh shared with Rev. Clermont the recent attacks on religious minorities, including Sikhs and Muslims, in Europe and called upon the Conference of European Churches to work more vigorously with religious minorities of Europe in reducing religious intolerance.

Rev. Clermont expressed dismay at the incidents of hate and violence in Europe and offered to work with Sikhs in Europe.

Both leaders agreed that the Sikh and Christian communities of Europe need to be able to work together on issues of common interest to prevent religious intolerance and hate crimes.

The NAEIS annual conference also adopted a resolution on July 12 that stated, "As we unequivocally condemn that horrible act [terrorist attack in London], we are equally repulsed that others would use violence to exact revenge. This violence goes against all that our religious communities teach us about embracing the hands of our neighbors and living in peace and respect…. In this challenging time, we call on all people of faith and goodwill to engage in more inter-religious dialogue and collaborative action and pray that this may lead to greater understanding and awareness."

Rev. Clermont and Dr. Singh also discussed the French ban on religious symbols in pubic schools. Rev. Clermont, who is also the President of the French Protestant Federation, called upon the French Sikh community to work with his organization in resolving the issue. During the NAEIS conference, Dr. Singh had expressed concern over the adoption of similar laws by other European nations.

In response to the small explosions reported today from London, the WSC-AR calls upon Sikh Gurdwaras, organizations, and individuals in the US and Europe to be cautious of incidents of hate, prejudice, and violence, and to promptly report all such occurrences to the local police and civil rights organizations.

The Conference of European Churches is a fellowship of some 125 Orthodox, Protestant, Anglican and Old Catholic Churches from all countries of Europe, plus 40 associated organizations. It was founded in 1959. It has offices in Geneva, Brussels and Strasbourg.

The WSC-AR is a representative and elected body of Sikh Gurdwaras and institutions in the United States. Its members include 37 Gurdwaras (Sikh places of worship) and other Sikh institutions across the nation.

A Janeoo around …… Guru Nanak’s neck???!!!

Date: Savan 4, 537 NS (Nanakshahi)

Waheguru Jee Kaa Khalsa, Waheguru Jee Kee Fateh.

On the issue of the “Janeoo, around …. Guru Nanak’s Neck” Veer Harkinder Singh Jee has given details from a very lovely sweet, and feel good kind of story about Guru Sahib’s Janeoo ceremony. There is no question that hearing this story anybody’s heart will melt and tears will start flowing from the eyes, exclaiming “Wah, Wah, Wah, Wah.” For reference he has asked us to refer to pages 272-275 of Sri Nanak Parkash. I personally have not read this book, therefore I cannot say one way or the other, if it is another scrupulous Bipar Trash like “Gur Bilas Patshahi 6, or not? Therefore, all that we have to analyze it with is the little sample that Veer Jee has provided us with.

In addition to the “Janeoo Ceremony” episode, Veer Jee has also been very kind to provide us with details about another episode of “Guru Sahib’s travel to Mecca ” in which the same (?) author claims about Guru Sahib’s wearing of a Janeoo. … Luckily, details about the Mecca episode have also been provided by Bhai Gurdas Jee, the scribe of the first copy of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee. Therefore let us compare Veer Harkinder Singh Jee’s reference with that of Bhai Gurdas Jee to search for the truth.

From the description of the “Visit to Mecca” episode, Veer Jee has given the following details about Guru Sahib’s dress; He writes;

“The day Satguruji embarks upon His Symbolic pilgrimage(!) journey to Mecca, look at what He is wearing (please keep patience before labelling it Biparish conspiracy):

”Oochi kulah dhari nijj seesum! Asaa hath bikhay Jagdeesum!

Garay Jeneoo paei Kirpala!! Tilak karyio sundar punn bhalaa!!

Gae meh saily paey bosalaa! Bany su Hajji roop Kirpala!!

Kautakk hitt yeh roop banaey! Hindu?Turk? na jaat lakhaey!!

Please note that the writer of these details is not prejudiced in any ways. Neither is he a Bipar as implied so vehemently and poisonously. Let us look at these details a bit closely. That day Satguru ji is wearing a  strange dress: On head is a hat (topi), in hand is a big staff (Dand-dhari), in the neck is a JENEOO!(hindoo looks), mark on forehead (Tilak-dhari), in next details, Bhai Bala is holding a Lotta (Muslim Faqeer!)[Please hold your desire to start another discussion that Bhai Balaji never existed] and a Mussalla(Mylim prayer matt. Look at the conclusive statement: Kautakk hitt yeh ROOP banaey!! Wah Wah (do we recall: Koi akhay bhootna ko kahay be-tallaa!! Koi akhay admi Nanak becharaa!! Oho oho). Only to dramatize a great happening, My Satguruji is wea! ring this dress!! Look, He is confising the onlookers thus: Hindoo Turak! na jaat lakahey. No one can figure out if He is a Hindu or a Muslim?? This is all deliberate wearing of a Janeoo. All it indicates is that it mattered not at all to Guru ji one way or the other.”

Now in connection with the same episode, Bhai Gurdas Jee has given the following details.  Bhai Sahib Jee in his Vaar 1, Pauri 32 writes;

Baba Phir Makay gas-i-aa, Neel Bastar Dharay Banwaalee,

Aasaa Hath, Kitab Kachh, Koojaa Baang Musallaa Dharee.

Meaning: The image of God, Baba (Nanak) went to Mecca, wearing blue (Muslim colored) clothes. With Aasaa (big-staff) in hand, His book under his arm, along with a Lotta (Kettle), and Musalla (the Muslim Prayer Mat), (looking like ready for) Bang (the call of Muslim prayer). .

Now let us compare the two: In Bhai Gurdas Jee’s Vaar; …… Is there any mention about the Tilak (the Hindu Mark on the Guru Sahib’s Forehead), Janeoo (the Hindu Sacred thread around Guru Sahib’s Neck), (Hindu) Bhai Bala in Guru Sahib’s attendance (holding a lotta), or in company, or Guru Sahib’s dress representing a mixture of Hindu and Islamic dress???!!!

The answer is NO, not at all!  ….. Now, doesn’t this discrepancy ring some alarm bells raising the question as to why the author of “Nanak Parkash” has deliberately interjected all these Hindu items into a purely Muslim episode, while Bhai Gurdas Jee has not???!!! Who, should we belief? Bhai Gurdas Jee, or the author of “Nanak Parkash?

To justify the discrepancy, yes, one could argue that Bhai Gurdas Jee might have missed the minor details like Tilk, Janeoo, and Bhai Bala in his write up that the author of “Nanak Parkash” didn’t. However could Bhai Sahib have missed a very unusual part of the Nanak Parkash’s author’s description? That is; Guru’s dress as a mixture of, Hindu and Islamic dresses? …. There is no way Bhai Sahib could have missed such an important detail. If the story of the mixed dress was true, it should have been the talk of the town that should have turned into a fable. How could Bhai Sahib miss that?

Therefore, the only possibility is that such a dress never existed. In fact, the things are possibly the other way round. It is Bhai Gurdas Jee writing that have been intentionally distorted by the author of “Nanak Parkash” to suit his task of bluring the lines between Guru Nanak’s “Sach Daa Marag” & the “Bipran Kee Reet.” The trick was to decorate the Guru with the Hindu marks of distinction of Tilak, and Janeoo, while nobody was watching. Then let this distortiion of Bhai Gurdas Jee’s writings settle in, to make the Hindu marks on Guru’s body acceptable to the Sikhs as normal, and in the process end up disorienting the Sikh thinking for ever. Can one imagine a Sikh with a Tilak & Janeoo on his/her body, and still oriented & capable of distinguishing between the “Sach Daa Marag of Guru Nanak” and the “Bipran Kee Reet of Banaras ?”

Shouldn’t something like that smell like a “Bipar conspiracy”? I will leave to the judgment of the readers.  ….. However let us not forget that “Bipar conspiracies” did not start, just yesterday. They started the moment young Nanak stunned the Bipar World with his refusal to wear their Janeoo. That is why it is so important to understand this episode in its depth. Danger Lights turned red in the entire Bipar World on “young Nanak’s refusal to wear the Janeoo, and he was put on the Bipar watch list. As his glory grew so did the Bipar attempts to muddy the his literature, teachings, beliefs, and practices by deliberate distortions.

By the time of the Third Nanak, Guru Amardas Jee, the menace of Bipar adulteration had crossed into such a noticeable level, that the Guru Sahib could not ignore it any more. He ended up cautioning the Sikhs to always keep in the mind the distinction between “Pakee Banee, of Sach Daa Marag” and “Kachee Banee, of Biparan Kee Reet”. Furthermore, how Guru Arjan Patshah and Guru Gobind Singh Jee sealed and protected the “Pakee Banee” from distortion by compiling it in the form “Guru Granth Sahib” and bestowing it with Guruship, is known to every one of us.

Today our problem is that we have forgotten the warnings of the Guru, and therefore fooled by the Bipars, we are busy in proving the “Bipran Kee Reet” as “Sach Daa Marag.” No wonder the proud Khalsa of yester years is lost in the “Bipran Kee Reet” today, and running confused, like a disoriented chicken with its head cut off.

Shouldn’t we stay alert about figuring out; as to how the Bipars have gotten into the Driver Seat of our Sikh Train, and grabing all the controls has put our train on the Bipar Tracks, and are making it run full throttle towards “Bipran Kee Reet”???!!!
