ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

 ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧॥ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ - ਪੰਨਾ ੩੫੦॥ ਜੇਤਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਧੁਨਿ ਤੇਤੀ ਜੇਤਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਤੇਰੀ॥ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਸਨਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਹਉ ਮਾਈ॥ ੧॥

ਅਰਥ: ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਜਾਂ ਰੂਹਾਨੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਡੀ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਆਦਿ, ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਸ ਹੈ। ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਜੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਹਸਤੀ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। (੧)

O True Lord! Whatever benedictions such as Divine enlightenment, power of speech or hearing and the reflection of handsome body we have, are all through God’s benevolence only. The Almighty God pervades everywhere including all creatures and human beings. There is no one else in the Universe except the True Lord. (1)

 ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ॥ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ॥ ੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥

ਅਰਥ: ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੋਕਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ (੧ - ਰਹਾਉ)। ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ “ਸਾਹਿਬ” ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ‘ਸਾਹਿਬ’ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਜਥੇਦਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ!

Guru Sahib advises us that God alone is the Highest and Supreme Authority in the Universe and as such no other person could be equated with the True Lord. (1-Pause)

ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਛੋਡੈ ਆਪੇ ਲੇਵੈ ਦੇਇ॥ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ॥ ੨॥

ਅਰਥ: ਸਾਡਾ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਰਣ, ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੱਭ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ। (੨)

Ours birth and death is the sole prerogative of God alone and also the True Lord alone takes care of all by bestowing blessings on us. (2)

 ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਈ॥

ਜੈਸਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਤੈਸੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ॥ ੩॥

ਅਰਥ: ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੋ ਭੀ ਸਿਲਸਿਲੇਵਾਰ ਕਾਰਜ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕ ਐਸੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾਅ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। (੩)

Whatever has been happening in the world, it is under God’s Divine Command as no one else could interfere. Therefore, we all should regulate our lives with God’s support and accordingly, keep on praising the greatest virtues of the True Lord. (3)

ਕਲਿ ਕਲਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਤਵਾਲਾ ਪੀਵਤੁ ਰਹੈ॥

ਆਪੇ ਰੂਪ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਂਤੀ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਏਵ ਕਹੈ॥ ੪॥ ੫॥

ਅਰਥ: ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਰਾਬੀ ਦੀ ਮਿਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਐਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ, ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਖ਼ਰਾਬ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਐਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। (੪ / ੫)

While illustrating an example of a drunkard person, Guru Nanak Sahib advises us that such a person remains engrossed in the worldly falsehood by drinking wine as if sweet and thus completely enamoured by the worldly pleasures. Hence, we should never drink. (4 / 5)
